As a means of uniting the creative community at GE (and getting some color on the walls), I designed a monthly birthday poster for the team. The poster series was met with warm welcome, and quickly turned into an anticipated event. "Oh my birthday is this month—Morgan, make it a good one!"
I love this series. Every month, I faced a mini-challenge of conceptualization (what shall I create?) and execution (shit, the deadline is coming up!). Sometimes the ideas came instantly, and other times it was a blitz to the end.
The birthday series became a personal, creative exploration—a monthly outlet to incubate a new style or creative hankering. It was a "no fail" project in the sense that I was uniquely the client. On the flip side, if I disliked the final design, I had to begrudgingly stare at it for the next ~30 days (punishment in itself).
Every design taught me something (good and/or bad), and let's just say, there was always an unfair amount of favoritism to the month of August ...
